PJLFI and Philstar bring Christmas to Typhoon Pablo victims

Few days before Christmas, PJ Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. and Philippine Star Operation Damayan acted as Santa Claus bringing gifts to communities affected by Typhoon Pablo in Compostela Valley (Comval). In cooperation with Cebuana Lhuillier Region 5, Metrobank Foundation, Armed Forces of the Philippines Eastern Mindanao Command, Philippine National Police Southern Mindanao and the local government of Comval, volunteers proceeded on December 20, 2012 to Barangay Poblacion in Monkayo, Barangays Bangkerohan Norte and Sur in Montevista and Barangay Gabi in Compostela town. These areas have not been adequately given assistance by donor groups and private institutions.

Despite the heavy rain and muddy grounds, the groups took the risk and travelled to distribute 3,000 Christmas packages consisting of rice, sugar, coffee, milk, sardines, corned beef, noodles, towel, blankets and slippers to families of mentioned barangays. Repacking of the goods was made possible through the assistance of SM City Lanang in Davao on December 19.

The recipients were very thankful of the donations, giving them something to prepare for noche buena. The words of gratitude from the residents were endless and the smiles on their faces were very evident. These made the team realize that their efforts and hard work in organizing the activity were indeed worthwhile.
